From scooters to ski pants, from white lipstick to winkle pickers, STARK RAVING MOD! is a celebration of the 60s-revival Mod subculture in 1980s Australia. All over the country, but particularly in Sydney and Melbourne, Mods became a familiar sight doing the mashed potato on hip nightclub dancefloors, shopping for soul and R&B vinyl in independent record stores, ferreting for ex-army parkas and vintage stilettos in op shops, and zooming around the city en masse on shiny, suped-up Vespa and Lambretta motor scooters – flashing past in a blur of black and white op art cheques, red-white-and-blue Union Jacks and targets, ankle-freezer pants and white go-go boots.
